Bio: Marie-Claire Bozant has been making drawings since she was a child, usually taking inspiration from the many places she has lived. She grew up in a military family and they moved frequently--this has always influenced her work, and also left her with a sense of detachment and isolation.
The injured furniture series of drawings sprang from her need to illustrate the effects of emotional pain on the individual in an ironic and sometimes humorous way, with the notion that anything we do to make ourselves feel better is futile and ineffective. Marie-Claire Bozant uses furniture as a stand in for the figure because of its relation to the domestic and the things we live with everyday.
Marie-Claire Bozant received her bfa at the university of new mexico, and is currently working on her mfa at the university of washington in seattle.
