Bio: Kiino Villand is a Los Angeles-based photographer of Estonian descent best known for his photographs of notable personalities from the worlds of film, music, sports, art and culture. A graduate of Rutgers University with a B.A. in American Studies, much of his work is informed by an acute awareness of the mechanisms by which the cultural fringe permeates the mainstream cultural landscape. Villand's photography has appeared in numerous publications such as Anthem, Wired, Emmy, V-Life, i-D, Tokion, The Big Issue, Elle, W and Grand Royal. His work is steadily being acquired by a cadre of collectors from the worlds of art, design, fashion, restaurants and entertainment.
Eager to set his still images in motion, Villand has recently begun directing. His first project which began shooting in 2006 is the documentary Meaning and Rhetoric, The Sonic Explorations of Jose Medeles, new prints from which are featured in this exhibition.
